We are honored to recognize Detective Katie Schultz as our February Hero of the Month. Katie is an exceptional partner and advocate for the RRCAC. Over the years, she has gone above and beyond—not only excelling in her role as a detective but also volunteering her time and talents to support our mission.
Katie has been with the Moorhead Police Department since 2006, dedicating her career to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community. From 2017 to 2020, she served as a School Resource Officer, strengthening relationships with youth and providing a trusted presence in schools. In 2020, she transitioned to an investigator role with a focus on Juvenile Crimes, where she has continued to make an extraordinary impact.
Beyond her investigative work, Katie has held numerous leadership roles, including Field Training Officer, Explorer Advisor, and Bike Patrol Unit member. She is currently a member of the department’s Peer Assistance Crisis Team and an instructor with the International Police Mountain Bike Association. She also serves as the department’s resource for Sex Trafficking and Human Trafficking investigations, demonstrating her deep commitment to protecting victims and pursuing justice.
Her dedication to the community extends far beyond her professional duties. Katie serves on RRCAC’s Program Committee and the Children of Courage Gala Committee, playing an instrumental role in the success of these events. From hosting activities at the Gala to ensuring that families have access to vital resources, her contributions make a lasting impact. She also volunteers with several outreach programs, including teaching Bike Safety to youth, participating in book reading programs for children at local schools, teaching Juvenile Justice at area colleges, and coordinating community events like Safe City Nights.
Katie’s leadership is evident in every aspect of her career. She is the Moorhead Police Federation President, as well as the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #8 Chaplain and Secretary. She has also mentored fellow officers, sharing her expertise and passion for justice.
The RRCAC team is deeply grateful for Katie’s dedication, empathy, and advocacy. Her ability to connect with children and families—whether conducting forensic interviews, offering support during difficult times, or mentoring fellow officers—makes her a truly invaluable member of our community. Her tireless efforts have made a profound difference in the lives of many, and we are honored to celebrate her as our February Hero of the Month.
